We finished Planting corn except the cover crop ground on May 22, 2016. It took a full three days longer for our fields with cover crops to dry out. The experts said that it was because we didn’t wait to spray and plant green. There is always a risk to whichever way you choose it seems and the weather does not always allow you to operate under ideal circumstances. We finished planting soybeans on May 24. Since this time we have been busy with replanting frost-bit soybeans, applying nitrogen to the corn, mowing side ditches and waterways and spot spraying weeds around field perimeters. It’s a beautiful time of year to be out in the fields. We were blessed with 1.25″ of rain last weekend so hopefully that will help us whether the heat wave that is to come.
